-A Snowy Owl takes off just before a kill. I was blessed with this amazing and rare encounter in Ohio back in 2020. I sat and watched this bird for nearly an hour as it waited patiently for an opportunity to catch a meal. In this case, it was a vole scurrying in the grass field below. After an hour of stillness and patience, the owls head started to bob back and forth as it locked onto its target like a homing missile, and then. Bam! The takeoff led to a successful kill.
