-Once a week during Alaska season, the ship I worked on would stop in the small town of Petersburg for the day. Every week, I would see this same beautiful bird. As if she was welcoming us into the harbor each time I saw her. Week after week, perched on the same old fishing boat that was aptly named, “The Pacific Queen”.

You can find them in abundance in the wetlands surrounding the Great Salt Lake, fishing and hunting for ducks and other small birds. -A Snowy Owl takes off just before a kill. I was blessed with this amazing and rare encounter in Ohio back in 2020. I sat and watched this bird for nearly an hour as it waited patiently for an opportunity to catch a meal. In this case, it was a vole scurrying in the grass field below. After an hour of stillness and patience, the owls head started to bob back and forth as it locked onto its target, and then. Bam! The takeoff led to a successful kill.
